New regulation on e-visa procedure comes into force

Confirmation has been given from the British Consulate that the practice of issuing affixed/stamped visas at the border gates will finish on the 10th of April 2014 and will be totally replaced by the e-visa system (An e-Visa is a document that allows the bearer to legally enter Turkey).After this date you will need to purchase an e-visa online before entering Turkey.

In accordance with the Turkish Law on Foreigners and International Protection (Law no. 6458), published in the Official Gazette on 11 April 2013. The new law will come into force at border gates across Turkey on the 10th of April 2014 .

The affixed/stamped visas will be issued simultaneously with the e-visa system until the new law is enforced.
After April 2014 you will no longer be issued a visa at the Turkish border gates.

From the 10th of April 2014, British nationals who require a visa to visit Turkey, can only obtain their visa from the website prior to their journey to Turkey.

UK nationals can only obtain this visa from the Turkish Government website before their visit to Turkey.

The cost of the visa is approx. 12GBP or 20USD, you will need valid passport (minimum of 6 months) and a credit card (Master or Visa)

Applicants need to print out their e-Visa and show it to customs officials when entering Turkey.

Please note: Turkish authorities can deny entrance of a holder of e-Visa to Turkey in certain cases. Holders of visas issued by Turkish embassies or consulates are subject to the same procedure too, thus can be denied entrance.

Please follow the online step-by-step process from the e-visa website. Upon completion of the transaction Applicants need to print out their e-Visa and show it to customs officials when entering Turkey.

e-Visa is granted only for tourism and trade purposes. Application for other types of visa (work visa, student visa etc.) are required to be submitted through Turkish Embassies or Consulates.
Important: Please be aware, it has been brought to the attention of the British Consulate that there are several websites offering Turkish visas at a higher cost than the official website. The British Consulate strongly recommends all travellers to Turkey to ONLY use the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs website to obtain their visa.
